Common Sense Ideas to Save Energy.

Sometimes even the thrifty among us waste energy and end up costing us big time on our monthly energy costs. This is something that both adults and children often do. Try out these suggestions and you can save some money on your energy bills simply by acting responsibly and employing common sense.

In or Out

Either make up your mind to go into the house or out of the house. By opening and closing doors and coming into the house as well a out of the house all of the time, you are wasting energy. Do you remember when your mother used to have a fit when you did this? Not only was it annoying, but it also wasted a lot of energy. It let the cool air out in the summer and the warm air out in the winter. Decide whether you are going in or out.

Take a 10 Minute Shower

That's all it takes to get clean! You do not have to be in the shower for 45 minutes while the water running, just like my family, to get clean. Once you have soaped yourself and rinsed, you're not going to get any cleaner. Unless you happen to work in a coal mine (unlike any members in my family who happen to be teenaged girls) you do not need to spend 30 minutes in the shower. Ten minutes in the shower and you're done. You can cut down on your energy bill.

Switch off the Television when not in use

The familly pets get along just fine if the TV is not on. There is no reason to have the TV on in the room when no one is in the room. TVs today are not like those like the ones the 1960s. They do not require a while to “warm up”, so the minute you turn a TV on, you can start watching the tube! Why have them on in a room when you are talking on the phone in another room? Turn the tube off when not watching. A novel idea, but it it works to reduce energy bills. If you can't fall sleep because of lack of Television (as some people are so addicted to TV that they cannot be in a room without one running) you can put a timer on the the tube that will switch off when you eventually fall asleep. Doing this, the TV is not on all night.

Lights off when the room is empty

Here's another easy to do idea. We no longer live in the 19th century by gas lamp which takes time to start burning. The minute you turn on a light, it lights up the room. So, there isn't a reason why we need to have lights on in the room when no one is present. If you must have a path making your way to the bathroom during the night, just get a lighted night light that uses less energy.
